Works like a charm!
1. Create a new project in Xcode.
2. In the final step of project creation, make sure that "Create Git repository
on my Mac" is enabled.
3. If Step #2 is not done correctly, create the git repository for the project
from the Xcode menu "Source Control->Create Git Repositories...", selecting
4. Create an *EMPTY* project on [GitLab](
5. Add a remote to project in Xcode. Open the "Source Control Navigator" in the
left pane or use the Command-2 shortcut. Ctrl-click on the project and select
"Add Existing Remote..." from the context sensitive menu. Choose Remote Name
`origin` and Location ``, with
relevent substitutions for username and GitLab project name.
6. Edit -> Add -> Commit -> Push -> Repeat
